Bisque
Bisque kilns are kilns run for pottery without a ceramic glaze. The goal of this firing is to convert greenware into a more durable, yet still porous stage.
Glaze
Glaze kilns are a second firing run for pottery that does have ceramic glaze applied. The goal of this firing is to melt ceramic glazes and create a waterproof surface.( we fire to Cone 05/06 and Cone 5/6)
Raku
Raku firing:
A low-fire firing process that involves removing glazed ware from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and placed in closed containers with combustible materials such as newspaper, cedar wood ships, or sawdust. Through reduction, the piece is starved of oxygen, creating unique colors and textures within the glaze.
*unglazed bisqued ware: taken from kiln at lower temperature and materials such as horse hair, sawdust, and feathers are burned against hot pieces to create textures and patterns.
